Many Won’t Survive the End of Darth Maul: Death Sentence…

So, I guess I may have just inadvertently written the first new lightsaber murder officially owned by Disney. That was unexpected.

This week, Star Wars – Darth Maul: Death Sentence comes to an end every bit as nasty as the Sith lord himself.

I have to say, I’ve absolutely loved writing Darth Maul.

Before I started, I had a few people ask me how I could write a character like Maul. Many saw him as little more than a scary face and a few flips but what I discovered was a complicated, tortured, calculating and Machiavellian character who was a whole lot of fun. I loved testing him in this series, watching him pull through and, finally, watching him pull the strings. I’d love to get the chance to write him again some day. It was also nice to create the Jedi Judd and Salmara, and go back and show some of the childhood of Dray, a character I created in Star Wars: Invasion.
Of course, there’s no way that Maul would have been half the character he was on the page without Bruno Redondo. Bruno’s work on this series has been fantastic. His facial expressions, his action, the small moments and the big, he’s conquered them all along with the brilliant Michael Atiyeh. And all this wrapped up in those gorgeous painted covers by Dave Dorman. Cheers to all of these guys along with Michael Heisler, Randy Stradley and Freddye Lins.
