Announcing ‘Injustice – Gods Among Us’ The Comic Series

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

Injustice has been announced.

I’m writing Superman.

No, really. I’M writing Superman.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I grew up reading DC Superheroes, and writing Superman has always been my ultimate comics-writing goal. With the Injustice prequel series, that’s exactly what I’m doing… along with Batman, and Wonder Woman, and Green Arrow, and Green Lantern, and Flash, and Joker, and Harley Quinn, and Cyborg, and Nightwing, and many, many others in the DC Universe. I couldn’t be happier.

Which isn’t to say that the characters will be happy…

This series, which tells the events leading up to the WB Entertainment and NetherRealm studios game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, is one of the most exciting, terrifying, heartfelt, epic and nasty stories I’ve ever had the pleasure to write. While the exact details of Injustice are still sketchy, I can tell you that the game script that the NetherRealm people have put together is seriously good. It’s great to see a fighting game with such a rich story. You’re all in for a real treat.

Artist Jheremy Raapack is going to kill on this series and it’s great to be working with Jim Chadwick again too. Jim was my editor back when I was writing The Authority for Wildstorm and he’s one of the best. Thanks to Hank Kanalz and all the people out at Burbank for the opportunity.

We’re going to smash this like Superman smashing Flash into orbit in this trailer…

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na… Batman!

DC have announced the Batman digital-first series will be called Legends of the Dark Knight and have named the first four stellar creative teams.

The line-up for the first six chapters:

  • June 7 – “The Butler Did It,” written by Damon Lindelof and illustrated by Jeff Lemire
  • June 14 – “All of the Above,” written by Jonathan Larsen and illustrated by JG Jones
  • June 21– “The Crime Never Committed,” written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Nicola Scott and Wayne Faucher
  • June 28 – “Crisis of Identity,” Part 1 written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Ben Templesmith
  • July 5 – “Crisis of Identity,” Part 2 written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Ben Templesmith
  • July 12 – “Crisis of Identity,” Part 3 written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Ben Templesmith

That’s some pretty nice company to be in there – some big TV and movie writers, some stars of comics and three of my friends, in Templesmith, Nicola and Clay. However, the real stand out for me is the fact that THREE Australians are there. Our editor, Ben Abernathy, clearly likes Aussies.

Hope everyone checks out the first story today by the co-creator of Lost and the writer of Prometheus, Damon Lindelof, and Jeff Lemire (Animal Man and Sweet Tooth).

New chapters, which debut each Thursday, can be downloaded for 99 cents on the DC Entertainment website.

And, here’s the Ethan Van Sciver cover.
