Writing Earth 2.

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

MTV and DC Comics have just announced that I am the new writer of Earth 2 with my great friend, and fellow Australian, Nicola Scott on art.

Nicola is an incredible artist and I feel very lucky to be working with her.

I really want to acknowledge the great work that James Robinson has done on this book. James is a wonderful writer who I have a lot of respect for, and with Earth 2, he’s built an entire world and filled it with characters and mysteries aplenty.
I want to thank everyone at DC Comics for the faith they’ve shown in me with this one.

It’s not every day someone hands you a whole planet. I’ve destroyed a lot of worlds while writing Star Wars but I’ll try not to break this one.

Here we go…

Australia conquers Batman – Legends of the Dark Knight is here.

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na… Batman!

DC have announced the Batman digital-first series will be called Legends of the Dark Knight and have named the first four stellar creative teams.

The line-up for the first six chapters:

  • June 7 – “The Butler Did It,” written by Damon Lindelof and illustrated by Jeff Lemire
  • June 14 – “All of the Above,” written by Jonathan Larsen and illustrated by JG Jones
  • June 21– “The Crime Never Committed,” written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Nicola Scott and Wayne Faucher
  • June 28 – “Crisis of Identity,” Part 1 written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Ben Templesmith
  • July 5 – “Crisis of Identity,” Part 2 written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Ben Templesmith
  • July 12 – “Crisis of Identity,” Part 3 written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Ben Templesmith

That’s some pretty nice company to be in there – some big TV and movie writers, some stars of comics and three of my friends, in Templesmith, Nicola and Clay. However, the real stand out for me is the fact that THREE Australians are there. Our editor, Ben Abernathy, clearly likes Aussies.

Hope everyone checks out the first story today by the co-creator of Lost and the writer of Prometheus, Damon Lindelof, and Jeff Lemire (Animal Man and Sweet Tooth).

New chapters, which debut each Thursday, can be downloaded for 99 cents on the DC Entertainment website.

And, here’s the Ethan Van Sciver cover.
