Radio, The Deep, Facebook Group.

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

A quick post to say that Colin Wilson and I are being interviewed on 3CR radio at 5pm (Melbourne time) today, where we will be talking about all of our comic book projects.

In other news, I’ve just sent off the first 72 page story of ‘The Deep’ to the publisher!  It is currently on track for a worldwide release in April 2010.  We’re still designing the look of the thing but hopefully I can put up some teaser images soon.

Also, a few people have asked where else I can be found on the internet.  The only other place I frequent is my facebook group – which can be joined right here.

Jo Chen, Dave Bushell, Lawrence Leung, Zombies, Star Wars, Radio And An Animated Series…?

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Yes, it’s a long title for a post but I have a bit to say… leave me alone.

JO CHEN

First up, our awesome cover artist for Star Wars: Invasion, Jo Chen, has been nominated for an Eisner!  We know she’s brilliant, glad to see that others know it too.  Give her awards, people.  Give.  Her.  Awards.

DAVE BUSHELL

Despite the fact that Dave Bushell still looks twelve (the beard fools no one Dave!), he and I have known each other and occasionally worked together for years.  His show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of his best ever.  But don’t take my word for it, just look at the the amount of TV people and agents in his audience.  They smell success.  I’m not sure what that smells like… chicken?  Go here – book.

LAWRENCE LEUNG

One man who has smelt like chicken for a long while is Lawrence Leung.  He doesn’t need me to promote him, but I will anyway.  Lawrence is a damn nice guy with a great TV show.  Tonight he jumped out of a plane on television and THEN It got impressive.  Watch Lawrence Leung’s Choose Your Own Adventure (nice website) Wednesday nights on ABC or go see his comedy festival show, or both.

ZOMBIES!

I have completed my first Zombies related comic book script for a publisher.  This amuses me.  That is all.

STAR WARS

I’ve finished writing the first five issues of Star Wars: Invasion and I’m ramping up for the next arc.  In between these though, I’ve been lucky enough to land another little Star Wars project for Dark Horse and I’m really looking forward to writing it.  I will say more as soon as I can.  Star Wars: Invasion is all over Dark Horse at the moment, go check it out.

RADIO

I was interviewed by the radio program ‘Faster than light’ today about a number of things, including The Example, Flinch and Star Wars.  There will be a podcast.  I will post it.  Colin and I are also doing an interview with The Australian on Friday.

ANIMATED SERIES

Lastly, we had a meeting today with an animation company about a series that a feature film director and I have been wanting to do for ages.  I wrote the pilot in January 2008.  It’s all looking good.  Things will move quickly.  Stay tuned.

‘Falling Praying’ Nominated For Awards And The ABC Interview.

Monday, January 19th, 2009
Melbourne Short and Sweet ended on Saturday night at the Arts Centre and ‘Falling Praying’ did very well. The show picked up nominations for ‘Best Comedy Script’ and ‘Best Production’ to add to the ‘Judge’s Choice’ and ‘People’s Choice’ awards it won earlier this year at Crash Test Drama.
Falling Praying was at it’s best on the final night and the audience were in hysterics.

A huge thank you and well done to our incredible director Jacqui Shulz, who took this little play well past the script and created something quite amazing.

Thanks also to our brilliant actors; Josh Futcher, who won the ‘Best Male Actor’ award and immediately called his mum, and Sonya Kerr, who also fared well with the judges.

Josh, Sonya and I had a bit too much fun being interviewed on ABC radio last week and the entire interview, including an excerpt from the play, can be heard here. My voice isn’t normally this high… I think I was trying to appear non-threatening. The interviewer was very interested in my past as a professional juggler and fire eater… I forget people find that interesting.

Tom Taylor Writing For Radio and The Example To Be Produced in Edinburgh.

Monday, July 28th, 2008

On Friday, Spicks and Specks producer Anthony Watt got in contact with me to say that ‘The Comedy Hour‘ on ABC radio wanted to use a sketch I wrote titled ’90% Percent of Victorian Patients Don’t Go Home With Scissors Inside Them’… I know, it’s a catchy title.

I’ve just come home from the taping where the sketch was really well received by the live audience and I learned that I was the first ‘guest writer’ the show has had… which is nice. The show airs every Monday night at 9 with my sketch probably being broadcast tonight or next week.

Meanwhile, my play ‘The Example’ has been selected for a ‘World’s Best 10-Minute-Plays’ season at the Edinburgh Festival. The season is being produced by Bite Size Theatre.
