UK Awards – UK Comics – And Falling Praying wins ‘Crash Test Drama UK’.

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Voting for the Eagle Awards in the UK is now open and anyone can vote right here – http://www.eagleawards.co.uk/

Some nice person has stuck me down under ‘Favourite Newcomer Writer’ and ‘Favourite Writer’… for the record, even I can’t vote for me under ‘Favourite Writer’ but I’m sure my mum can.

If you’re planning on voting (thanks), Star Wars: Blood Ties and Star Wars: Invasion are also nominated, as is Rombies (be ready for a Rombies update soon…).  Also, be sure and vote for Chris Scalf under ‘Favourite Painted Art’ and Colin Wilson under ‘Favourite Inker/Penciller’ – Colin is also on the Honour Roll – definitely vote for him there. Justin Randall is also under ‘Favourite Newcomer Artist’.

Staying in the UK, my play ‘Falling Praying’ has taken out the final of ‘Crash Test Drama UK’! Whoop!

Thanks to the director, Dan Clarke, and a big congratulations to the two cast members, Dan Clarke, who took out the ‘Best Actor’ award on the night, and Steph Weller, who won ‘Best Actress’.  Also, a big thank you to organiser, Glynn Oram.

In other UK news, Star Wars Book UK have announced the winners of their ‘Fan Favourites’ for 2010 and it seems we‘ve picked up second place… twice.

“Knights of the Old Republic: Demon by John Jackson Miller et al. was your favourite comic book story of 2010 with 26% of votes cast. However, second place was tied by two different stories by the same author, also a newcomer to the Star Wars expanded universe, Tom Taylor, with his Invasion: Rescues story (with art by Colin Wilson) and Blood Ties: Jango & Boba Fett (art by Chris Scalf) – both gaining 17% of votes cast. Third place goes to another series known to be popular, Legacy by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, with its concluding arc Extremes (13%).”

Thanks to everyone at SWBOOKS.UK who voted.

Also in the UK, I believe the 5th issue of Star Wars Galaxy is out this week, reprinting Blood Ties and Invasion from the beginning along with Knight Errant.  Pick it up if you’re in the UK.

Two Plays. Two Countries. One Week.

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

A big theatre week sees my short play Falling Praying on at Newtown Theatre in Sydney this weekend (part of the Short and Sweet festival) and The Example become the first of my plays to reach New Zealand, running from the 26th til the 30th of January at The Herald Theatre, The Edge, in Auckland.

Cheers to Falling Praying director, Sharlene Zeederberg (who has been trying to get me on the phone for two weeks – sorry Sharlene, it’s been a crazy couple of weeks!) and The Example director, Tainui Tukiwaho.  Break some legs, guys.

My new short play ‘Mystery Flight’ won the Judges Choice Award on the 21st of November in the Melbourne Short and Sweet Festival.  It is now through to the Gala Final on Sunday the 6th of December at the Chapel off Chapel theatre.

Congratulations to director, Harley Hefford, and the brilliant cast of Jack Angwin, Christine Husband, Tilly Legge and Heath Miller.

Star Wars: Invasion #5 Out Today – And What The Future Holds

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Yep, today is the day.

A holocron will reveal a terrible secret.  We will meet a strange but very important crazy person on Nar Shadaa.  There will be blood aboard the Tsam’ Pah.  And, while some stories will be resolved, others will be frustratingly left hanging until ‘Star Wars: Invasion‘ returns early in 2010.

But fear not.  While ‘Invasion’ is away, we can still play.

‘Luke Skywalker and the Treasure of the Dragonsnakes’ (it really is a long title…) is out in January and is already available for pre order over at Amazon here or Things From Another World here.

‘Rombies’ is set to appear later this month through Gestalt Publishing who have also published Colin Wilson and my one-shot ‘The Example’ which you can get through Amazon or right here.

On the theatre front, my plays ‘Mystery Flight’ and ‘Falling, Praying’ have both been shortlisted for the upcoming Short and Sweet festival in Sydney and ‘Mystery Flight’ is set to debut at the stunning Chapel off Chapel theatre later this month.

Finally, I’ve recently finished writing another Star Wars related work (and had an awesome time doing so), which should be announced later this month.

This week.

This Wednesday August 5th, ‘Star Wars: Invasion’ #2 hits the stands and you can check out the first three pages right here.

On the same day, my play ‘Falling Praying’ begins at the Edinburgh Festival as part of Straylight Australia’s short play season.  If you’re around the festival, check it out.  It’s a good play, really, I’ve seen it before.  Details here.

Meanwhile, Colin and I have been nailed down for another interview over at eucantina – http://www.eucantina.net/interview-with-tom-taylor-and-colin-wilson.

‘Falling Praying’ Selected For Edinburgh

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Yep, ‘Falling Praying’ is my latest short play to be selected for production at Edinburgh.

‘The Example’ had a great run at Edinburgh last year, picking up a pile of awards and noms along with the larger Bite-Size Theatre show.

Now Straylight Australia are taking ‘Falling Praying’ (about two people who meet, fall for each other… and then fall out of a plane) over there.

Josh Futcher – Winner of Best Male Actor at Short and Sweet ‘o8 – flies high at the Arts Centre, Melbourne in ‘Falling Praying’.

‘Falling Praying’ won a couple of awards last year and was also nominated for Best Comedy and Best Production in Short and Sweet at the Arts Centre.

I’m also currently adapting it into a comic book script for my upcoming graphic novel ‘Brief Cases‘.
