The Example Goes Digital for 99 Cents!

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

The comic that started my career, The Example, is now available as a digital download!

For just 99 cents you can have Colin Wilson and my first collaboration for your iPad, iPhone, Android or whatever you use, through Graphicly.

Not convinced to part with your hard-earned 99 cents? Read what the critics have to say…

“This book should be used in writing classes everywhere, and should be the primary example (no pun intended) for aspiring comic writers to reference when trying to learn how to write dramatic and compelling dialogue.” – Newsarama “

“Brief Cases, late trains, and small talk add up to what is probably the best comic of the year! Taylor and Wilson collaborate to create one of the most tension filled comics I have ever read.” – The Outhouse.com

“…as effing good as the accolades suggest.” – Broken Frontier

“Like Watchmen, it uses a simple 9 panel grid on almost every page, but you won’t even notice. I mean, this is just two people talking at an empty suburban space, yet you’ll be lost in the world it creates.” – Comic Book Jesus

The Example has also recently been optioned and filmed. Set photos and info right here.

Fine Art Friday – Colin Wilson

Friday, August 26th, 2011

It’s the second ‘Fine Art Friday’!  Every Friday, I’m going to endeavor to post a piece of art from one of the truly great artists I’m lucky enough to work with, and fine artists don’t come much finer than Colin Wilson.

Colin and I work on the ongoing Star Wars: Invasion series together. We also collaborated on the ‘critical darling’ ‘The Example’ through Gestalt comics.  Colin and I are currently working on a little side project too…

Anyone who knows him, knows that Colin isn’t the biggest fan of superheroes, so, with this in mind, this piece is about as rare as they come.

Colin Wilson on, arguably, the two biggest Superheroes in the world.  And he nails it.

And, just in, Colin’s movie finally has a release date. ‘Bullet to the Head’, based on Colin’s French graphic novel written by Matz, is due for release on April 13 2012.  The movie stars Sylvester Stallone alongside Christian Slater, Jason Momoa and Sung Kang. I’m sure they’re all very happy to be associated with Colin.

Help Spread the Word – The Deep – The Nekton Family Need You

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

It’s here. This week. The worldwide release of ‘ The Deep: Here Be Dragons’!

The reaction to the advance copies available at San Diego Comic Con was incredible, with meetings and interest from all over the world in our aquatic adventure story. Many fans read the book and came back to tell us how much they loved the story and the beautiful art of the talented James Brouwer. Some were already talking about cosplaying as the Nekton family (Yes. Do this. I want to see this).

Now, the Nekton family need you. I’m kinda proud of this one but for our book to get noticed alongside the enormous wave of books about flying people in tights, we need the word spread. Please help us out by plugging, pimping, tweeting and sharing news of this book using every form of social media you can.  Also, feel free to just tell people, using your voice box – I know it’s ancient tech but it still works.

Anyone wanting a digital copy for review, please contact media@exploringthedeep.com

Also, remember to actually get the book. Make sure your comic store has ordered it.

You can get it direct from the publisher right here – GESTALT PUBLISHING

Through the official website here – EXPLORING THE DEEP

And through Amazon here – AMAZON LINK

Go forth.
Spread the word.
The Nekton family thanks you.

My San Diego Comic-Con Schedule

Monday, July 18th, 2011

In about eight hours, the San Diego adventure begins for 2011.

And, because it’s yet another way to put off my packing, I’m posting my schedule for the Con.

With the dual releases of The Deep and Rombies #1, I will be spending most of the con at the Gestalt Comics booth – booth 4500 and 4501. I will be signing every day at 2pm (except Friday – Friday is Star Wars day) but I’ll probably be hanging out there a fair bit aside from my official signing. This year Gestalt are incredibly well represented, and the booth will be full of great Australian creators (and just damn fine people) in Ben Templesmith, Nicola Scott, Justin Randall, Andrew Constant, Christian Read, Emily Smith, Rombies artist and Gestalt Art Director, Skye Ogden and, of course, the head huncho, Wolfgang Bylsma.
The full signing schedule for Gestalt is right here – http://www.gestaltcomics.com/newsworthy/2011/07/

The Deep is Making Waves… and other bad puns.

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Now less than a month away from its official release, The Deep: Here be Dragons has been getting some fantastic publicity.  With TEN exclusive preview pages now available at Comic Book Resources, the interest level for this book has grown and grown.  I’ve done a pile of interviews and am set to do a pile more.

Thought I’d stick links up to the interviews I’ve done so far for The Deep, and also post a link to the Official Facebook site – Right here.

Comic Book Resources (with ten exclusive preview pages) – Exclusive: Tom Taylor Explores ‘The Deep’

“The Deep” is a wonderful concept… a “Fantastic Four” meets “Fantastic Journey” – CBR

MTV Geek – Fun interview – (and similar pun to CBR) – Exploring The Deep with writer Tom Taylor

“…impressive stuff thanks to Taylor’s simple and clear take on the Nekton family combined with the wonderful cartoon-style art by Brouwer. It strikes just the right balance between smart, funny, and menacing…” – MTV

Comic Booked Interview with the brilliant Nicci Sixx – Take a Journey to The Deep

“Fun for the whole family, I highly recommend grabbing your copy the very day it drops, and tucking your own family in with it that very same evening.…new depths of ageless family entertainment.”

Broken Frontier Interview with, fellow Australian, Kris Bather – Tom Taylor Dives Deep

“Australian writer Tom Taylor has been a juggler, a fire eater, a playwright and more. He’s chartered the course of Luke Skywalker and DC’s The Authority and now has an all-ages undersea adventure to be told in the attractive pages of new OGN, The Deep.” – Broken Frontier

Yup.  There are now even more Rombies pages free online at Gestalt Publishing.

Rombies – Free and Online

Friday, May 13th, 2011

I highly doubt Roman Zombies have ever been offered online for free before, so this must be a pretty unique opportunity.

Gestalt Comics have opened up a new ‘online comics’ section at their official website and Rombies #0 is the first of their comics to be offered for free in its entirety.  As well as the #0 issue of Rombies, issue #1 is also set to appear with new pages being revealed every week until it’s all up.  Issue #1 is where our tale truly begins and, joining myself and the brilliant Skye Ogden on issue #1, is the newly announced series colourist, Mikiko Ponczek.

Skye and Mikiko are doing brilliant things on this series.  I’ve just finished writing the script to issue #4 and I can’t wait for the world to see what comes next.  Click the picture to start reading Rombies, right now, for free.

Rombies – Rising Soon

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

And so it begins…

Rombies #1

by Tom Taylor, Skye Ogden & Mikiko Ponczek

A father’s sorrow.

An unbearable heartache.

His desperate action, though wrought of love, unwittingly unleashes a dark force in the time of Emperor Titus.

A dark force that can be… harnessed?

Tying to real life historical events and crossing the paths of real life historical figures, our story twists, turns and weaves its way through theologies and empires, leaving no one unscathed, be they citizen, soldier or Senator.

Written by Tom Taylor
Illustrated by Skye Ogden
Colours by Mikiko Ponczek
